"I think freedom of expression is like oxygen, more or less like the air we breathe. There is nothing about being human that doesn’t involve expression, just like drawing breath. Even beyond just being a right, it’s an intrinsic part of being human. It’s embedded in us from the start."
Good way of putting it.

Silicon Valley executives (or former executives) seem to be having great difficulty comprehending the concept of *decentralization*. They keep trying to find ways to add the centralization in when pondering on it, presumably because that is how *their* sites work.

Kerbal Space Program was an interesting idea. It's a game where you run your own space program and get to launch little green astronauts into space on your own spacecraft.

Well, there isn't much for me to go on so far with it.

Since it's early days, and it's clearly under construction, I don't really have an opinion on the former. But, I'm aware it's there. I would prefer something more grass-roots than what this seems to be though.

In the case of the latter, the guy was a more effective internet freedom advocate prior to launching the org (where he mainly did that anyway). I don't understand why he did that.

Even though it looks early days, COSL is better than that "child protection" org which seemed like it would have been better off launching itself as an internet freedom org.

The EFF does a lot of work behind the scenes which you don't see. They keep the Internet functional. You should donate to them.

Alright, let's just split it then. That didn't work so well.

Unfortunately, it's somewhat vague (it doesn't mention which authority was involved), so it's hard to say if it wasn't that weird "age verification" guy (I think the situation with him was sorted in the end?)

While I was investigating something else, I encountered a post from a year ago accusing the German Government of pushing a hosting firm in a puritanical manner.

In Star Trek, it's easier to travel through time than it is to get to the Andromeda galaxy.

In a sci-fi, it is a convenient device for saying "This civilization is really advanced."

If you're not familiar with a Dyson Sphere, it's the maybe unrealistic idea of building a shell around a star to capture the energy emitted by it.

The Dyson Swarm idea tries to make that idea more plausible by having a swarm of satellite like things capturing the energy emitted by a star.

I'm seeing these two ideas popping up in sci-fi novels now.

It's interesting to see sci-fi novels with Dyson Spheres / Swarms.

Hey, it's me. Lol.

I also discovered that people apparently still use old school forums (which I guess is cool as it doesn't involve using, say, Facebook).

Since we're on the subject of what hosts not to use (Hetzner is on the list), I'd advice against using Linode. I've heard horror stories about it, including one involving a competing site making a bogus "copyright claim".
