"The law will also force social media giants like Meta and X to notify media outlets when they intend to delete or restrict their content, and give them 24 hours to respond. Media outlets can also bring the case to an out-or-court arbitration body."

Wait until Americans discover that "keep up" laws are a thing.

Bluesky should seriously consider increasing their character limit (default Mastodon could also do so but Bluesky's character limit is particularly small).

Just because Twitter had a tiny character limit doesn't mean Bluesky also has to adopt that design decision.

The same might be the same for Veilid, although the statistics there are inferred.

Looking at Nostr briefly (since I've been saying for a while that I'd like to look into it), it looks like there are quite a few relays.

Alright, folks, I'm not going to look at too much fediverse drama, much like how I'm not fond of watching other Internet drama.

If you're not familiar with this subject, there was an update a few months ago and things went a bit wonky afterwards.

There are instances with more free speech (i.e. I think FSE, is that still around?) but it might be very noisy there and it's more niche.

If another instance is upset at you for daring to criticize the idea of federation being a magical silver bullet, there is always Qoto. Our admins are pretty chill.

It's not total free speech but they won't get mad over stupid things.

We have a 65k character limit on here. With other platforms plugging themselves in and bridging themselves, it might turn into a link, so I'll often post things in chunks.

If a post is really long though, I won't even bother with that. I will just use the long character limit.

If you are wondering, the local feed is still missing, although the home feed works well enough.

Sometimes, the home feed gets stuck (it doesn't load any new messages) and the only way to fix it is to refresh the page.

🫘👹🪓DANCING DEMONS❤️💚🖤

One of Setsubun's (節分) liveliest festivals takes place at the small temple of Rozan-ji (廬山寺).

At 3pm three oni (one red, one green, one black) appear before the main hall. Clasping flaming torches and mean-looking weapons, they begin a slow and stomping dance!

This doesn't mean other social media platforms don't also have issues but we have to be wary of mythologizing the fediverse.

Show thread

Apparently, folks on the fediverse don't like it when the silver bullet mythology *and* the way a few individuals cling to it are described as being like a cult.

The fediverse has issues. Inter-instance censorship. Ones referred to as "HOA". Unprofessional mod / admin practices.

If someone is a believer in the fediverse, it's not like it's going to improve, if someone doesn't interrogate aspects of it.

"fans" (particularly concern trolls who crave attention) who "watched a couple of titles" stand out like a supernova.

In fact, a lot of these titles being adapted now are titles which I saw around a decade ago.

Show thread

Anyone who has been reading light novels for around a decade could have seen the "transported to another world" titles long in advance. It's not something out of thin air, it's like "Oh, they are adapting those ones now?"

A light novel might care quite a bit less about censoring something for the television than an anime adaptation of it.

Full nudity? Yeah, whatever, just throw it in.

Sex scenes? Yeah, just throw that in.

Nipples? Even some anime have historically had those.

I'm surprised no one has thought of something that is like Nostr (relays which transmit messages for a community) and like Cwtch.
