Tech kvetch

I've got 20 years of personal photos in Google Photos, which is associated with my work email account. Photos is being deactivated for this account at the end of the month, so I need to download them.

Google has a process for downloading all of your photos:

techadvisor.com/article/743371

(Scroll down to "How to download all Google Photos at once to PC or hard drive".)

I initiated it and am waiting for the email that my archive is ready. The site says they're still working on it.

It's been four days.

@peterdrake it took several days to generate the takeout export of my photos from Google when they announced the end of free storage.

Next cloud is a decent self-hosted solution, if you're looking for a replacement. Not quite as seamless, but you own custody of your data, and it can automatically sync with Android.

@educoder @peterdrake Personally if you want a good self-hosted photo management solution only, I can highly recomment getmonument.com/ instead. Better than Google Photos for organizing the data, and they stay on your device at home. None of your data leaves your own storage, which is even better imo.
