Lots of variety in December. Earthborne Rangers was a disappointment, and echoes: The Dancer was really more of an audio jigsaw puzzle than a game, but that was more than balanced out by the satisfaction of successfully completing our 2023 #BoardGamesAtoZ challenge.

@htdrake oh! I’ve been looking into Earthborne Rangers since it looks like something I’d enjoy. What disappointed you about it?

@emmahunneyball For me, the "effort" management and card play felt really fiddly and the story was uninspiring. I was never able to sink into a cinematic mindset. And it didn't seem like there were enough other cards in the box to make it get more interesting in future plays.

We recently tried Sleeping Gods, which also felt too fiddly to me, but it had far superior story and art design. We've kept that one to try again in future, but I think we're going to get rid of Earthborne Rangers.

@htdrake @emmahunneyball Of the pseudo-RPGs we've played, I would probably rank Arkham Horror LCG > Near and Far > Sleeping Gods > 7th Continent > Earthborne Rangers.
