@markmoxon I spent months working in CAR at BBC TV Centre upgrading the systems overnight. It was when Torville and Dean were skating in the Winter Olympics so I guess 1984? The presentation guys worked late with their feet on the desk and a bottle of wine iicr.
@markmoxon I worked at Logica which had developed the system with the BBC Research Dept at Kingswood Warren and Aston and VG who made the keyboard terminals for the editors. I installed the systems at Chicago (WLS) and Cincinnati (WKRC) and the ORF teletext subtitling in Vienna. It was a great project!
@bbcmicrobot The instance I use has a 65536 character toot size limit!
@markmoxon I worked on the BBC Teletext systems including the upgrade from 2 VITS lines to 4 back in the 1980s. A colleague designed a new encoder board which was a great improvement. It connected to a #pdp11 DR-11W parallel interface. The software was written in RTL/2 and MACRO-11 under #RSX11M on a PDP-11/34
Today I finished converting Elite to use sixels. As a result, Teletext Elite now does everything that the original does, just in teletext.
I’ve got to tie up some loose ends, but I hope to release it next weekend. Watch this space!
Outside the bell tower door at St Magnus the Martyr church in #London is this big chunk of Roman wharf timber dating back to 75 AD which they found in 1931. Amazing thing!
@PaulDunphyEsquire and in Orkney they have peedie pufflings
Dublin's Turkish Baths which stood on Lincoln Place. Built in 1860, the building was demolished in 1970.
Loved this picture on the front of #Chertsey Museum's Annual report. It was drawn by James Parsons for a "#Literary Links" exhibition held there recently. The rhyme was written by Edward #Lear. I never knew there was so much fascinating #archaeology in the subsoil
Mastodonners.. This is Patch, the studio cat.
Patch loves nothing more than lying amidst the patch cables of a nice warm synth, or maybe stretching out across a vintage keyboard.
Despite appearances, Patch is 100% ruthless (Think Cato/Clouseau but with more scratchy violence)
The studio is hers, obvs, she just lets me use it, if I behave myself and turn on all the nice warm boxes.
Patch prefers ambient & cool jazz. Nothing too loud.
@ajroach42 it's fantastic that such a gem as #mastodon was just waiting in the wings ready to go when #twitter imploded.
I just realized that Elon musk unban Andrew Tate...
That's one of the worst decisions....Twitter is slightly becoming more and more toxic with this kind of decisions. #riptwitter.
@lizlyricfm you've got the early Saturday morning stand-in for Evonne I see
@lizlyricfm Liked your "contact me on Twitter, Instagram and Mastodon" this morning. I listen to Lyric whilst I work from home each day
@iainmacl sounds like Brexit too.
"One former Twitter engineer likened the service’s current state to Wile E. Coyote, the Looney Tunes cartoon character, as he runs off the edge of a cliff. Though he may still be running in midair for some time, once he looks down, he drops like a stone." https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/18/technology/elon-musk-twitter-workers-quit.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur
#Twitter faces collapse as engineers exit
@JenniferMorency it's like a great big game of Jenga. When that final critical piece goes it all comes tumbling town.
