Has anyone got a list of questions I can ask a potential fitness trainer to ascertain whether or not they are likely to be in one of the more science-based fitness camps?

Every time I try to read a book on fitness, it’s all, “The one simple trick to get ripped abs with zero effort!” I want a fitness coach with a pragmatic, skeptical point of view.

@pganssle I haven't tried asking this but I wonder if "What's your opinion on the Atkins diet?" would work.

A good trainer would probably say "Wait, what even are your goals?" and then launch into a conversation about diet that skips fad diets and talks about general changes you can make

(My take is Dr Atkins took interesting ideas about nutrient balance and turned them in to a diet plan that is a poor idea for many people and is so complicated that he failed at explaining it to the public)
