It's unfortunate that some countries need a bitter reminder of just how much you need the rest of the world. I don't know if Turkiye is prepared to reconsider its foot-dragging on NATO admission for Sweden, and of cousrse Sweden's too decent to couple the two.
And I wouldn't, for example, wish a natural disaster on Hungary either. It's just a pity that that seems to be what it takes for these sorts of regimes to remember, oh, yes, we need each other.

Sadly, disasters certainly show how much the people of many countries need saving from their incompetent govts; unsure how effectively that massive stress and anger actually transmits up to already-autocratic or despotic govts. (Unless there was a quake directly under a presidential palace, in which case they'd leap into action)
I can see Assad cornering all of the aid going into Syria, and making it his own largesse. Erdogan certainly not above targeting towns that vote for him.
