In looking for a self-hosted online notebook I've just settled on . Fully self-contained*, remarkably feature rich, no database of any kind (!!!!) and it's been supported by its original author and a sizeable community since 2004.

But it's tough to get past the fact that the basic element is called a Tiddler. Not an Item, a Note, or an Article. A "Tiddler". God the British are silly sometimes.

* If you're hosting it on the web and you want changes to be saved to the server you do have a little bit of work to do, but it's pretty simple on most platforms.

@pieist
Perhaps register an objection with The Ministry of Silly Basic Element Names? :ablobcatwave:

Not sure we have much room to judge though, what with "Toots" and all.

Off to look into TiddlyWiki; thanks for the lead.

@pieist I've always said that the name is a speed bump to up-take. How did you discover #tiddlywiki ?

@number6

Just searching for about the trillionth time for self-hosted notes, and various permutations on that idea. It clicked this time. I like it a lot. Combined with WebDAV (or Node.js if you're really serious) it's a pretty nice tool.
