@beebrookshire Thank you for writing about this. I do a lot of hiking. This is one of my big pet peeves. Your piece made me think about why exactly I find it annoying. It's because I have a real reverence for those natural places that borders on spiritual. So for me it's like coming to church and playing your own Bluetooth speaker in the pews rather than listening to the choir that's already there. But like you point out, that's my own view and I can't demand that it be privileged over others'.

Yes, you can. Adversely affecting the experience of others in a public place is something you're perfectly entitled to complain about.
