My latest: ya can’t fix things by not voting https://skepchick.org/2024/07/you-cant-fix-things-by-not-voting/
@rebeccawatson and ya can’t fix it by voting. Voting Biden hasn’t done anything for undocumented workers, black people being murdered in the streets, income inequality, or the Palestinian genocide.
@marti @rebeccawatson Black unemployment went down a lot and Lina Khan is doing good pro-worker and pro-competition work.
@marti @rebeccawatson I think what you mean is: you can't fix all the things, even the important things, with a single vote. And that's definitely true. You can't really stop Israel from doing genocide if they're _really_ into it, unless you're willing to invade it. You can't just fire all cops and start from scratch. But you can gradually improve things with a lot of effort.
@marti I would say Obamacare is better than lowering taxes for the rich. Gay marriage is better than invading Iraq. They don't do the same things. There is a difference.
@pies you would say that. I’m guessing the 8k-16k civilians he droned to death would disagree.
@marti Who's "he"?
@marti Well, you do you, but if you can't tell the difference between Democrats and Republicans in what they do and intend to do I think you're either not serious or only considering very few specific - and important - issues. Either way I don't think this conversation can change it.
@pies you’re right in that Republicans are worse than Democrats in terms of policy, but they are the same in terms of action. From the beginning of this, that’s why I’ve said that voting doesn’t matter. If Republicans are fascist, then Democrats are fascist enablers. It’s why the Overton Window has been shifting right for almost 5 decades via he ratchet effect.
