@lcamtuf From my experience LLMs can only do the most banal parts of my work with constant supervision. Maybe that'll change, but right now it doesn't feel like it. I don't know what job, if any, they can replace.

@fox I'm saying this because we've only had one female applicant ever (didn't work out), and we're not hostile at least as far as work environment - fully remote, flexible hours (4 hour overlap with business hours, otherwise as you like) sick leave as needed, hardware provided if needed, generous vacation days, holidays off, extra hours (i.e. on call) non mandatory and well paid for. Not sure what else we could do other than explicitly say "female or minority applicants only" which seems wrong and may be illegal.

@fox 92% of developers identify as male, according to a survey I've seen. So 20% non-male does require effort.
Non-white isn't always possible (i.e. in Poland).

@corbden I've heard of many gods, usually characterized by their powers. Again, I don't think that's a useful archetype, but I've never had anything like that to deconstruct, so you may be right on it being helpful in those situations.

@corbden I wouldn't know, I've never found the idea of an omnipotent being setting the rules and doling out rewards and punishments to be comforting. Quite the opposite, I find the idea abhorrent on its face and deeply terrifying if you scratch the surface.
But if that brings you comfort, maybe there's others who will too.

@nini @Wraithe Some Republicans are against the existence of public libraries in general, same as with public schools.

@corbden That's why we invented tools like the scientific method. Your phone actually exists, we can find a lot of evidence for that. There is no evidence for there being a god of any kind.

@petrillic A similar thing had happened to autism, a sudden rise in diagnosis because people knew what to look for. Good for you for finding yourself early :)

@corbden Is that better than going a step further and admitting that it's just a made up concept?
