@brettk Rogers Canada reported profit of almost $5 billion and 26 thousand employees in 2023. They could give each of their employees $100k/year raise and still get $2.5 billion profit. They're afraid of people internalizing facts like that one.

Oh hey look, a big Canadian corporation working to undermine #WorkFromHome via a cute little ad campaign for their broadband service.

Make no mistake, this is anti-worker propaganda, plain and simple.

@Richard_Littler 0.4% stretches the "non-alcoholic" claim a bit.

Reading all these articles about the high traffic from AI bots, here is my experience from a small German hoster: It's a huge problem, and it is getting worse very fast. There are bots like claudebot from Antrophic which are so aggressive that they block whole systems, outranking actual attacks for example against WordPress. And they change their AWS cloud IPs so often that blocking doesn't help for long and they also ignore robots.txt. Our on-call is regularly alerted for such issues.

@genehack Piezo speaker? I appreciate the throwback, but how do you use that?

@Richard_Littler The Smiths had Elvis Presley on their cover, but I don't know if that counts - Elvis is a pop culture icon as much as he was a musician.

@gabrielesvelto Its a wealth indicator for people with too much money.

@HoustonDog @LivingCooki Depending on perspective it's just as easy to run a VM to run a Windows program or use Internet Explorer. Assume Ng the software wasn't on a CD :)

@marti @rebeccawatson Black unemployment went down a lot and Lina Khan is doing good pro-worker and pro-competition work.

Have you tried turning it off and never turning it back on again?

@lcamtuf I never make mistakes and despise people who do.

@tante Fascism is more streamlined because you only need to pay one politician.

@ramsey If you actually need to do it this way (i.e. calculate from imperfect data) and along the stats you've stored the number of items in each bucket (parameter set), you can do a weighted average to emphasize the larger buckets, that should be closer to the actual result.

@chris @ramsey That in turn feels like dating advice. Find someone whose strengths impress you and whose weaknesses you find funny.

My son was reading about Marine Le Pen and remarked, “the funny thing about holocaust deniers is that they never seem happy that it didn’t happen”

@rebeccawatson Unless next time you'll hallucinate him barking.

I spent 10+ years doing security at Google. I did a bunch of clever things while there - AFL, The Tangled Web, and a lot more.

But to be honest, my most valuable contribution to the business was a JavaScript web form that I put together. It saved untold person-years of back-and-forth with product teams, reduced launch latency, and greatly improved the consistency of product security reviews. It earned me some promos, too.

We like to celebrate big ideas, but boring work often matters more. It's also why your corporate job is not a durable legacy: I'm sure the form has been since refactored or deprecated, and soon, all memory of it will be gone.

@dgar So it's just the running and screaming?
