Just discovered that my Moto G Power (2021) will not be upgradeable to Android 12.
I literally bought this phone new last year in March. It's not even a year old.
In terms of hardware, it's fine.
But now I have to find out how long it will be getting security updates.
Wow! Today is the last month I'll be getting updates to my Moto G Power (2021)!
Doesn't even get support beyond 2 years!
When I bought my iPhone 6S back in 2015, it lasted me for 7 years.
It even has iOS 15 running right now!
Just switched my SIM over to my iPhone SE.
I originally bought this as a testing device—not for daily use.
But knowing I won’t be receiving security updates on my Android device makes me feel vulnerable.
What’s silly is that in all other ways, I prefer my Android phone to my iPhone.
Okay, I will allow that my iPhone has a better camera.
But the screen real estate and battery power is so much better on my Android. Those were the two reasons I went with the Moto G Power.
I keep wondering—maybe this is silly—how bad would it be to get a Pinephone?
Probably a bad idea, but I wouldn’t mind using something other than iOS and Android.
@atomicpoet Can you root the Moto G and install Ubuntu Touch on it? I see people discussing this.
@martinvermeer First I’ve heard of that.

There is plenty of alternative OS. And plenty of Android distribution too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_custom_Android_distributions
@atomicpoet @martinvermeer Maybe, you would like something like graphene OS or LineageOS, which are non-google Android distros.
