#Logseq disappointed me and I advice everyone that cares about FLOSS, Markdown and in general digital sovereignty to read this and think twice before saving too many notes in Logseq:

P.S. even the new website is misleading, Logseq doesn't look like that nor it is possible to view items like those without complex hacks and plugins.
Mainly Zettlr since it has wikilinks and tags and Nextcloud Notes. Syncthing to sync files.
An alternative to Logseq would be Org-roam but I would like to keep using Markdown syntax:
https://www.orgroam.com
There is also SiYuan but I fear thar it will be like Logseq: https://github.com/siyuan-note/siyuan
Also AnyType is worth a mention but it is not FOSS atm and it doesn't use Markdown:
https://anytype.io
@post @stefan Do you mind explaining why and what ways you think SiYuan would be like Logseq?
I'm hoping that with a different funding structure (bootstrapped vs. VC-funded) SiYuan would become a real contender in this space. They are doing many things right regarding communication, managing GitHub issues, building community, very much similar to Obsidian.
I think they're already really big in China, it's just the language barrier that we don't yet know all its capabilities (or limitations).
It could be like Logseq in reference of the red and yellow points I mentioned.
I don't think VC funding affected Logseq much when it comes to those points¹. These days there are many rich geeks whose ideas fit Logseq's user-oriented approach and I think those funded Logseq to be a good tool more than to make money from it.
For me a factor is instead the young team using MacOS and not being used to FLOSS' way of doing things that is generally way better and battle-tested.
For example shipping AppImage for Linux is something companies/communities focused on other platforms and not caring about Linux at all do.
Devs that actually hang out with Linux community know how much important it is to use Flatpak for third party apps.
Also, in FOSS culture secretly using a closed source module, even worse for claimd e2e encryption, is blasphemy.
1: except maybe for the company developing privately in order to maintain its attractiveness for fundings.
@post Thanks. I agree I'm too fixated on their funding for no good reason. I re-read your list and you're right to think that SiYuan can be like Logseq. We'll see then.
@post What are you using these days?
