Primer AI.

In 2020, Primer AI became a contractor for U.S. Special Operations Command.

Primer AI claims it will develop the first AI platform to automatically identity suspected disinformation agents.

Sean Gourley, the founder, worked for the U.S. military creating AI systems to "track insurgency" in post invasion Iraq.
His focus is now on "domestic disinformation", so citizens of western countries. Sean Gourley asserts they must be a "Manhattan Project for truth". He suggests governments should create centralized, government controled, Wikipedia style databases, which will be updated by intelligence agencies to create baselines of truth.
Gourley claims that 2020 is the year that begins the "weaponization of the truth"

The trolley problem: your imagination versus the even sadder reality. (Just got this from a friend who also collects trolley problem variants.)

Hate the sin.
Love the sinner.

A recent toot by @L_howes (I am unable to quote-toot) did let me rethink how important it is when using pure ML/AI protocols (particular generative ones) to always remember that they are intriguingly build on correlation only. Causation comes with the builder or user.
Thus generative AI like #ChatBotGPT does not do science, it mimics it. It does not create art, it copies and mimics it. And when we claim a language model makes things up, it really only does what it is trained for

Here's a first... I just got an email because ChatGPT suggested an article I wrote to somebody. Could I send them a copy? Except, I never wrote the article, it doesn't exist. PLEASE realize right now that this tool isn't pulling out cool references for you. It's making plausible titles and matching them to authors names.

My problem with that “Bing told me it loves me” article is that the author waited until the last paragraphs to explain why, leading to misunderstanding about what’s messed up about it. (tldr: by mentioning jungian psychology and dark fantasies he primed the statistical model to cobble together dark, existential, and manipulative strings of words)

There is no concern that Bing is secretly alive or sentient.

There is concern this software could be harmful to people who don’t understand that.

Now Cory talking about the GPT3 mergers with search engines , especially Google with their 'huge secretive apparatus', says @pluralistic ... It's an 'incredibly weird pathological decision' to put this 'habitual liar' into their search engine, when it's already struggling with so much shitty SEO spam - this is so true 😬

Dear retards: bitcoin can't fix anything if'n ya just hoard it. It only works for society if you spend it. Nobody believes anything you say about it fixing the world when we know you're just trying to hype the price of your stash in USD.
