It’s tempting to install Mastodon on my NAS just to have a single-user server to play around with. Apparently it’s as easy as 1, 2, uh, 27!

I’m not entirely sure what I would do with such a thing, and that box is already busy running a few other things, but it’s a nice option to have at my fingertips. Plus I already have a wildcard SSL cert, so I can skip quite a few steps!

@pwinn imo for single user it seems a bit heavy. Have you taken a peek at, say, Pleroma and Misskey yet? Might be lighter, and have fun other features to explore.

@trinsec I am aware of both, but there is not (so far as I know) an easy docker stack install for Akkoma or Misskey for my NAS.

I’ve been noodling around with some Golang ActivityPub libraries, since I’d prefer Golang over Elixir or Ruby or Javascript, but the idea of a near-pushbutton install is still appealing.

@pwinn Wasn’t there some docker approach of Calckey (which should be a Misskey fork)? Don’t pin me on it, but you could probably check that out? If any, good luck. :)

@trinsec I’ll take a look around. I have to admit, I was focused on writing some Go code until I stumbled across the page above, not in pursuit of anything Fediverse-related, but in pursuit of tuning my NAS! For all I know there are docker images of everything out there and I just haven’t looked!

@trinsec I also see docker images for Pixelfed, as well as a few other ActivityPub projects. Hmmm…

@pwinn Oh, your NAS is going to do overtime now? 😅

@trinsec It’s very proud of its 4-core AMD Ryzen CPU and 32GB of RAM, so why not? 😜

@trinsec Now I’m thinking about Epicyon.

It’s python, which I know well, and seems to be philosophically very much in line with what I’m looking for.
