No, he did not do that usually.
Tribunals ascertained that he worked closely together with mafia, he was the head of the government and thus the government was being lead by mafia.
There are hypothesis that he might have killed an opponent, though this has never been proven.
I'm interested in what Putin did, do you have anything I could read about these murders and imprisonments?

Sure, but reading this kind of things from the news often leads to misinterpretation.
Do you know of any thorough article which provides several examples and explains what happened?
@rastinza I remember the case of Boris Nemtsov, from a few years ago, more recently there's the case of Nalvani, for instance. I remember there were a few other cases that I can't cite from memory. I don't remember reading a review on kremlins murderers, the news have been popping out during the years.
@rastinza The point is that the government of Russia is a Mafia state using mafia tactics.
