The fact that they'll be more desirable won't necessarily increase their use.
Currently a lot of people have cars, and definitely most rich people have cars; increasing the price would increase the amount of wealth required to have one and thus decrease the amount of people owning one.

But this is not a solution to the problem, the solution is providing a valid and better alternative.
