It feels like people in Japan are getting eaten by brown bears at a rate equivalent to about 30% of murder cases recently, but I won't know for sure until I actually run the numbers.

Let's do a fact check.
In reality, the number of people attacked by bears
🐻 is 197 per year. Of those, 6 are killed annually.

According to 2023 statistics, the annual number of homicides at the time was 912, which means that in Japan, bear 🐻 attacks actually occur at a frequency of about 20-25% of the homicide rate.

Still, Japan is so peaceful with fewer than 1,000 murders a year.

That seems like a considerable number. I looked into Slovenia, may not be a fair comparison as they have a much smaller population, but it is a country in which I know they have a thriving population.
The human attack per year is 0.2
