American's have one thing right, they tax their citizens according to US tax laws no matter where they live. We should do the same. None of this buggering off to Dubai or Monaco as soon as you've earned a few quid to be a tax exile.

@anon_opin what about if you happen to have a regular job with all the bills that go with living in a city, but you’re also paying the extra that goes with being a non-citizen of a country, overseas? If you’re not living in the UK and you’re not using any facilities there, why should you have to pay UK taxes? (Regular non-super wealthy expat, here)

@scottearle @anon_opin there’s a tax credit Americans can claim to avoid double taxation. As for why someone living abroad should still pay taxes in their home country: people of working age are net contributors to the tax coffers, supporting the education of children and the welfare of the elderly. Allowing working age people to work in tax havens without consequences forces those who are less mobile to pay more. Put it this way: if you move abroad whose paying for your parents state pension or paying back the money the state spent on your education
