This, about the kitchen and stuff, is so alien and ineresting to me. I live and grew up in Europe and the thought of using someone else's kitchen or - gasp - washer/dryer is unsettling for me. My first thought actually was: "Eeeh, how unhygienic". (Which it is not necessarily, I understand.)
But I absolutely love how the contact with people everywhere questions and rattles my sense of normal. Thank you!

Then you might be surprised to learn that communal washers and dryers are common in Switzerland. For example, I live in a block of 6 flats and we have a shared laundry room in the basement.
