@SwiftOnSecurity It's not quite as bad with home ACs due to their different construction compared to the ones in cars. Definitely worth powering on now and again, but probably only needs doing once every 2-3 months instead of monthly.

@SwiftOnSecurity the main difference is that the compressor pump assembly in home and commercial AC units is fully immersed in oil, in a downward orientation, whereas in a car it's typically a separate pump and compressor assembly in a sideways orientation, so you need to operate it more frequently to ensure oil coverage and prevent any crud from gunging up inside mechanical joints.

Do you mean that the home ones have axes vertically and the car ones have them horizontally? (I'm not sure what's "downward" and "sideways" in this context.)
