Hey linguists: you know how stage directions, IRC, and text messages have special markers for descriptions of actions, to set them aside from normal dialogue? Like:

*runs and hides*

What's the word for that? And what even is that *kind* of thing? Obviously it has distinct typographical and syntactic structure, but it's also sort of a... Case? Mood?
