My saga to replace the water intake solenoid valve on my classic dishwasher has hit a snag. The water intake (connected to the hot water line) is via a solid copper pipe with a compression fitting that likely hasn't been touched in half a century or more.

While I almost certainly can open this connection, the probability of being able to close it again water tight, even though it will be connecting to the same L-connector as before, is probably no better than 50/50, and for various reasons getting a new compression fitting in there would be a major job.

If the original compression fitting leaks upon reconnection, the implications for the spacetime continuum could be significant.

I've suspended work on this device temporarily while alternative timelines are scanned for solutions that minimize potential cosmic complications.

@lauren I know zip about plumbing, but wonder if this is a thing that welding could work for?

@robryk @rpardee I don't have the skills to do anything like that in the tight spaces involved.
