My 8yo found a petty denial of service of the local supermarket (Jumbo) self scan terminal. After your transaction you get a receipt which you must scan at the store exit. But if you scan that receipt at the terminal it get's in a blocking 'service needed' state. Rendering the terminal unusable until an employee manually unlocks it. The same 8yo, while running around, can get all 6 terminals locked in under 10 seconds.

@yschaeff I've never seen anything like that in the U.S. It makes me wonder what happens if you just walk out without scanning? We have Walmarts where sometimes door watchers will ask to see your receipt. I tell them no and continue on my way. This scanning at the store exit seems really intrusive since they no doubt already have cameras and security watching people.

In stores that are like that there's usually a gate that opens upon a receipt being scanned. Obviously you can jump over it or force it open.
