I have a Lenovo T16 laptop. Assuming 200W/m² for a solar panel, if the lid had a solar panel on the back it could get about 18W if left in direct sunlight.
Maybe enough to run the thing in the sun if you're not doing anything too power hungry, but not enough to also charge.
I had a dream that some small child left a laptop outside to "charge in the sun" because that was (in the dream) a common idea for children's toys. I wondered how viable that would actually be.
@isomer I have solar powered motion triggered lights for outside, work great (even in the winter).
I also have a camping solar panel. It + battery works great for charging a phone when hiking in good weather.
@psn Yeah. 18W is pretty decent. It'll fast charge a bunch of phones.
My parents had solar powered garden lights for years. They're quite handy.

It's less than if the lid was black, which it usually is.

@robryk @LapTop006 @isomer The thing I have claims 10w at 5v. It’s basically a trickle charger. Maybe it works better in places nicer than Ireland ;)
