Off today (until tonight) but had to write about the CBS poll measuring agreement with Trump's extreme anti-immigrant rhetoric. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/01/15/trump-poisoning-blood-immigration-polling/
@pbump Another reminder than more than 70 million voted for Trump on 2020. Whether they consider themselves racist or not doesn’t matter, vote for Adolf, become a Nazi.
@pablor @pbump i can’t stand trump, but this is a bad way to look at things. for example, a new mexico-based immigration lawyer friend told me many of his immigrant clients were trump supporters, which baffled him at first. it’s not because they were racist against themselves, which seems to be what you’re claiming
@sabbatical @pbump Latinos can be both right wingers and/or racists. Yes, even against their own. If you have any doubts, ask any Latino/a of dark skin, Afro Cubans, descendants of indigenous people. This is just everyday reality for many Latinos.
@sabbatical @pbump I’m not saying that racism is the only reason they support Trump. I also didn’t say anything about self-loathing. Latinos come in many different shades, so lighter skin to darker skin racism is fairly common.
@pablor @pbump far as i can tell, a lot of folks view the choice as between two evils, and see biden as racist as well, so don’t see that as the deciding factor. my guess is if you were able do psych evals of all trump supporters’ levels of racism, you wouldn’t get back the universal results you’re projecting
@pablor @pbump personally i’d never vote for either of these guys (they were even both my initial last choice in both of their primaries), but thankfully i don’t have to
