Wait a second.. why are Canadian builders warning of slowing building due to tariffs on things like aluminum, while at the same time #quebec is closing down aluminum plants because of tariffs?

#canada #canpoli

@Toxic_Flange Possibly because in Ontario, it's easier to import something from Belgium, modify it and export it to Australia than it is to import something from Quebec, modify it, and export it to Manitoba.

I've heard rumblings that "they're working on that" in response to US Tariffs, but it's been like that as long as I can remember, so I'm not all that optimistic.

@jws damn thats sad. Even with transport/oil costs, that it was cheaper than making it at home?!

@Toxic_Flange I don't know about cheaper - I just remember a lecture about that in Canadian Politics in my undergrad - there's a lot of internal regulation around commercial activity in Canada. At the time of that lecture - 2009ish - the prof said it was more regulation within Canada than between Canada and any European Country.

@jws @Toxic_Flange huh, this is the first i'm learning of this! and i took canadian politics too... must have slept in that day
