In the future, everyone will be on every social media app for fifteen minutes.

My new social media app is called Grouse. You can only post criticism of the 3,000 other new social media apps.

Posts are called “Gripes.” No likes or reposts—just one button to “Commiserate.” If a Gripe receives enough Commiseration it’s elevated by the algorithm into a “Complaint.”

Also there’s an academic version called “Faculty Meeting.”

Threads is looking better and better. What I wanted from social media was:

* self-promotion from celebrities and rich people

* no control over my timeline

* strict prohibition of any sexual content

* nothing from europe

* no alt-text

* data harvesting to empower genocides

REALLY enjoyed this piece by @paulkrugman.

Many of us are suffering from mind rot in the social media age but no one more than billionaires. You see it with Elon, you see it with Dorsey, and you see it with David Sacks.

They can do immense damage.

The thing I don’t think a lot of folks realize is how the fascist/regressive cohort of tech leaders (VCs and CEOs) is getting more & more extreme and are completely public with their destructive agenda. And their influence on tech is growing.

Great post from the Mastodon team with Eugen Rochko’s perspective of Threads. The best case is that users can follow and communicate with each other. The worst case is where they are today as two distinct networks.

Eugen seems to expect that Meta will follow through with its plans to interop and if that goes awry, worst case is we’re back where we are today.

Robots.txt needs an update for the 2020s. Instead of just saying what content can be indexed, it should also grant rights.

Going to bring to the Supreme Court a suit that I should be permitted to use lethal force to defend myself against anybody who dresses like a giant yellow bird in any dream I have, because the Oracle of Delphi, who I worship religiously, prophesied that a giant yellow bird would someday bring my doom.

It's the case of MOXON VS. STEVE, HIS NEIGHBOR, WHO WAS DRESSED LIKE A GIANT YELLOW BIRD IN A DREAM MOXON HAD

Everyone (looking at a nice sunset): what a nice thing for all to enjoy

Billionaires: (looking at the same sunset) am I rich enough yet to destroy the sun

Oh is there a kerfuffle on another web site today?

Happy Enshitification Day! 💥

July 1, 2023: Reddit cuts off API access, Twitter requires login, Youtube may ban ab-blockers, Meta and Google block news in Canada...

A half-year since Cory Doctorow's seminal thesis on #enshitification, how corporate platforms die (pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/pot), and every corporate site seems hell bend on their own destruction.

Celebrate Enshitification Day by going to [instance address]/about, find the donations link, and make your contribution to open social media!

The visiting team's fans went to their rented homes, which were located in the blocks surrounding the stadium.

And the home team’s fan—who knew they were the home team because they owned both the stadium and the visiting teams’ homes—drove to their own houses, many miles away.

And they slept well, knowing that after a brief and disturbing outbreak of discriminatory bias against them, justice on the Court Supreme had been restored.
