So would seem that recently Sunbeamcity.com has stated that their administrative position is to support and protect doxxing when they deem it appropriate.

This puts people at real danger especially considering the poor reputation the person doing the doxxing has (a laundry list of false accusations with no evidence).

The question I want to ask, should the QOTO policy be updated t include a clause where we defederate from any instance that supports doxxing?

Vote if you'd like but ultimately the comments will decide where I stand on the issue.

@freemo
Will defederating stop the doxxing? Will it restore any lost privacy? If the answer is no, then defederating is just more political grandstanding that you criticize other instances for.

@sda Defederating will minimize the liklihood of doxxing, it will not **stop** it though. If you show up in their feeds less then it means your less likely to get their attention in the first place. Means they need to do more work to find victims, which is fine by me.

@freemo
So, I guess that means they haven't (yet) blocked qoto then?

@sda They dont block instances for that very reason, they only silence them. So they can still see all our content from their account if they want to, but we wont show up in their federated feed. They also wont "hear" us if we comment on their stuff unless they follow us first.

@freemo
Well, I guess I just don't see the problem with them seeing content intended to be public... but whatever.

@sda Thats a valid point, I think its better handled through legal action.
