It is surprising how complicated mechanics can be in even simple #ttrpg systems. Scum & Villainy / Blades in the Dark / #fitd has a ~20 step process to resolve action rolls (considering each bonus or decision that can apply).
@sgryphon having played lots of blades, this take might be technically true , but it doesn’t really capture the experience playing live.
I have always found the roll process pretty smooth, with the exception of agonizing Devil’s bargain offers that usually significantly increase the fun.
It probably depends on the table, playing with an indecisive bunch could really bog things down in most rpg systems.
