I just went looking for the free basic rules on the #WotC website, and see that they have been removed and replaced with some woman telling us to buy the Starter Set for #dnd instead, even though the menu at the bottom of the page linking you there still says it's taking you to the Basic Rules. I am assuming this is more of what they did in preparation for gutting the #OGL and I am unimpressed. Shame on you, #DungeonsAndDragons

@CheekyKokako the free basic rules were never OGL. They were normal copyright.

For OGL, you need the System Reference Document (SRD).

@sgryphon Yes, but I was wondering if they were pulling the free rules at the same time as the OGL to make sure they were not giving away anything for free? It seems like a bad idea to me- the free rules are unlikely to keep anyone from buying the DMG & Player's Handbook, and definitely have led many people to get into the game, but who knows how Hasbro is thinking? They don't seem to be behaving like things which previously worked well for them, were actually working well for them.
