@ashwrites it’s the Internet part of #IoT that’s often unnecessary, and presents the security risk. Remote diagnostics, or even [composable and causal] #DigitalTwins for continuous product improvement make some amount of sense too, but the risk is scary

@jadp @ashwrites don't fall into the trap of thinking local networks are safe (eggshell networks). A firewall is probably stronger security than your wifi password. Best to always use well-established security, e.g. Matter. (And consumer devices have different use cases than commercial, e.g. they must allow local physical override for ownership transfer.)

@sgryphon @ashwrites absolutely; Bluetooth and Thread/Matter or even Zigbee and Z-wave are better choices. The idea of using the “Guest network” of your home router isn’t great. Yes, consumer and industrial have different use cases and different security understanding. The great IT/OT debate comes to mind too
