When Harriet Tubman was born, Thomas Jefferson was alive.

When Harriet Tubman died, Ronald Reagan was alive.

We are not as far removed from history as some would lead us to believe.

@Nash076 Yes. Studying genealogy changed my perspectives on time and recent history. (last 200 years.)

My grandfather on my father's side was born in 1863. My father in 1891. Here I am in 2023.

History is not behind us, it is within us & around us physically & culturally, in our laws & their basis & our imbibed prejudices & our very language.

We ARE our history.

To deny it is to deny our very selves.

@peterrelph2 @Nash076 Exactly. To understand ourselves we must understand our history. As you stated, our history is who we are.

And yet, there are lots of people who argue that history is worthless and a waste of time to study. I disagree of course. I argue that if you are to have any chance of predicting the future, you must study history.

Someone said (paraphrasing) of we don't learn from history we will forever relive it.
