@kennyc Yes. The Electoral College was an innovative solution to the real-world problems of running a democracy in a large country in 1785 where communication between two points took weeks. It also tried to mitigate inequalities between the states.

In today's world of instant communication, the slow comms problem doesn't exist. Today, modern manipulated mass media has turned the Electoral College into a liability because bad actors have learned how to manipulate it. The inequalities between states is basically moot today because states are not the sovereign entities they originally were. So yeah, it's an obsolete liability.
