They feel they are unjustly incarcerated and will learn nothing from their experience. Why? They don't recognize the legitimacy of the current government or its laws.

It's the same in New Zealand and their numbers increased since the Covid lockdowns. SovCits regularly appear in our courts for refusing to pay land taxes, or not registering their vehicles or not having a driving license and all manner of nonsense. And in court, they lose every time.
Every. Single. Time.
They never learn.
@BobLefridge @Dodo_sipping @GottaLaff Came across this post again and wanted to mention that like "living dead" or "militant pacifist", "sovereign citizen" is an oxymoron. It makes me laugh. There is no such thing.
The definition of a citizen is a person who, in exchange for certain rights and privileges, owes their loyalty to the state. You could call yourself a sovereign resident but not a sovereign citizen.
