@benny @lovelylovely It's not so great when the people are ignorant or stupid. This discovered during the Athenian democracy. It was obvious to the Founders of the USA. Even Charlemagne knew that his empire would be far better off with an educated populace.
Only despots strive to dumb-down a society. They know that a dumb populace is much easier to manipulate and control.
@shuttersparks @benny @lovelylovely That's why Republicans love Christians.
@originlbookgirl @shuttersparks @lovelylovely I don't feel loved by them. I'd say it's a certain kind of blaspheming "Christians" they like. The kind that rejects Jesus for being leftist and woke
@originlbookgirl @benny @lovelylovely They love right-wing Christians who aren't Christians at all, who want to wear the label but ignore what's in the Bible.
@shuttersparks @lovelylovely democracy was reinvented in the enlightenment era when people thought everybody would want education and that education would lead to people working together for the common good.
So it gives everybody a say not anticipating that power cannot only be exercised by armies, but also by being filthy rich and controlling the narrative.
The problem of manipulation remains to be solved.
@shuttersparks @benny
And these are actually why cult leaders are pro- banned books, it diminishes the quality of educational thinking.
Agreed.
