@lckrohjr @AlaskaWx @ingalls @mappingsupport @bud_t Good late morning folks. Cats and I slept in, and then spent some time unloading the bimonthly Chewy box. It is very gray outside with rain on its way. Today I have meal prep planned, and then down the library. I’m watching rain here on the east coast, and soon to be Sara in the Gulf. Have a calm and peaceful Sunday!

About 2 months ago I planted spinach and hardy lettuce in our mini greenhouse. The purpose was to overwinter and have a very early spring crop. But there still has not been any frost near Redmond WA and the plants are doing so well that I might start to harvest a bit.

@BakerRL75 @mappingsupport @lckrohjr @ingalls @bud_t In Interior Alaska, overwintering carrots means buying as many as possible from our favorite local carrot farmer in the fall and then parsing them out for as long as possible. Usually run out in January, though in a couple years made it into February.

@AlaskaWx @BakerRL75 @lckrohjr @ingalls @bud_t I grew enough onions this year that if all goes well they will last until the first Walla Wallas are ready next year. The onions are stored in baskets in an old metal file cabinet in our unheated garage. When temps are forecast in the 20s I can lift the baskets out and put them in a cool room in the house.

I read that onions prefer to be stored in the dark and this is the first year I am doing that.

So far we are still using Walla Wallas. They easily keep several months if well cured. There also is a basket of Patterson and Courtland onions. These varieties are known for long storage ability.

@mappingsupport @AlaskaWx @lckrohjr @ingalls @bud_t I never have had much luck with onions. Peppers and tomatoes and tomatillos out the ears, thumbelina carrots, little gem Romain And bright lights chard. Georgia Jet Sweet potatoes, and lots of herbs and garlic.

@BakerRL75 @mappingsupport @AlaskaWx @lckrohjr @ingalls @bud_t I have infinite green onions in the backyard. We don't get cold enough to trigger onions forming big bulbs, so I don't bother. I could get away with just growing green onions and shallots all year (could supply our family all year, if they were a bigger fan of green onions, actually).

@ai6yr @BakerRL75 @mappingsupport @AlaskaWx @lckrohjr @ingalls @bud_t I looove green onions. But I have to avoid them because they don't like me. Lol.
