Educational institutions of all levels should use and teach #FreeSoftware because it is the only software that allows them to accomplish their essential missions: to disseminate human knowledge and to prepare students to be good members of their community. u.fsf.org/1dz

Top cited AI articles since 2020 were all written by Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet-aligned researchers. Only exceptions: 2 articles by prestigious academic institutions… and the one on stochastic parrots by Timnit Gebru et al. (That really backfired on Google)zeta-alpha.com/post/must-read-

As the leader of a free and open-source community, it is always a great feeling to discover that some large-scale company uses your project inside their products. Today, a job offer indicates that Orthanc is used by Topcon Health in the context of eye imaging.

Besides this specific example, it would be so nice if such companies could learn to proactively propose their support to the maintainers of the free and open-source projects they use, for instance by establishing win-win research projects, so as to nurture the upstream work.

🔖 Do cancer researchers make their data and code available?

306 cancer studies:

16% shared data

4% shared analysis code

1% of data were FAIR (posted to a recognised repository, in a non-proprietary format, with an identifier and a license)

Cancer research transparency was this bad despite many journals having policies mandating openness.
