Did you know that Orthanc is a component of MSF's (Médecins Sans Frontières) on-site infrastructure? It runs inside their Field Network Kits (FNKs) to manage X-ray imagery. They say you should never release on Fridays, especially not before holidays. Anyway, the new release 3.0 of the whole-slide imaging plugin is now available!
This release brings support for on-the-fly generation of multi-resolution pyramids directly from DICOM instances. This new feature enables efficient viewing of high-resolution images directly in a Web browser (such as a mammogram), without downloading the full image locally or generating a separate series using the OrthancWSIDicomizer command-line tool. Compatibility with IIIF is provided as well.
A very joyful holiday season to all of you,
Version 2.1 of the whole-slide imaging plugin for Orthanc has just been released!
This new release brings a huge number of improvements, including better support for the Leica (.scn), Mirax (.mrxs), and Hamamatsu (.ndpi) formats, as well as for sparse tiling.
In addition, the "--padding" option of the OrthancWSIDicomizer command-line tool offers an easy way to pad JPEG, PNG, and plain TIFF images with a border to make their size compatible with deep zoom over the IIIF protocol.

The first release of the #Java plugin for Orthanc is available! This plugin enables Orthanc to execute code written in Java. This can notably be used to combine Orthanc with the dcm4che library for #DICOM, or to turn Orthanc into a #FHIR server using HAPI. https://discourse.orthanc-server.org/t/java-plugin-for-orthanc-1-0/4812
Introducing our latest plugin for Orthanc! Now you can encapsulate #STL files into #DICOM instances seamlessly, then display them using any Web viewer. STL files can also be automatically generated from DICOM structure sets (RT-STRUCT). https://orthanc.uclouvain.be/book/plugins/stl.html
