Please prove me wrong: Texas
I am first going to preface this by saying Im a supporter of liberty and Freedom, no need to go into why just understand im not against Freedom.
With that said, Texas independence is a meme, a poor one at that. Not only can people chew through all the standard problems a Separatist movement has (rarely does the host Country consent) but Texas has a cancerous problem many Separatist movements have (especially in the US), this is Demographic displacement.
Assuming for the sake of argument my point about one of, if not THE main problem with Texas going Renegade is that it will suffer the same problems of diversity/multiculturalism that the USA itself has. A Independent Texas would not be unified in being and would lack Philia to not fall into the same failings that justifies Independence in the first place.
This is not just a lack of Racial Philia, but also Cultural and philosophical. We could argue in drivel tripe about whether Race exists or matters, what is undeniable is the matter is the Californian problem. This being Ideological attitude shifts that has overtaken already the major city's/cultural hubs by "leftists".
The same people who "escape" liberalism of the coastline states, leave them for fertile individualist states, only to like the proverbial locust, infest and devour where they occupy.
IN short a Independent Texas may of been Viable Decades ago, but Decades age an Independent Texas was not viewed as Necessary, a day late and a dollar short so to speak.
Texas and for that matter any Separatist sate would be a dead man walking, with the only hope for a Viable Sovern state coming about a total US and thus World collapse.

@Atlas_Khan I don't think a US collapse would mean a world collapse. The dollar isn't what it was, even the petrol dollar isn't what it was. There are other quickly emerging economies. Also without the United States it would give the world back it's self determination.

PS sovereignty movements in first world nations are driven by economic factors, ie by people with money that stand to gain by divorcing their region from a federal authority. If Texas broke away from the United States tomorrow it would start its independent existence as a top 10 global economic power, somewhere between Russia and Canada in terms of gdp. If a state sovereignty movement isn't viable in Texas it's because people that know how to spell the word "sovereign" understand that Texas as an economic, tax generating entity has more to lose from independence that it stands to gain. It's almost as if being an economically integrated and strategically critical part of a superpower that also happens to be the epicenter of global trade is a massively enriching experience, and not some nefarious ploy by brown Californians to destroy freedomland with their purportedly retarded Democratic values.

I just don't think the United States would let a state secede, and I think that what they did to Texas for trying would be barbaric to a point no one would want to live there except oil rig workers. All of their borders would be pretty hostile, as well. Mexico would go back to trying to annex Texas and the US would also try to take it back. @Atlas_Khan

You're envisioning some kind of nationalist rebellion against the American federal government that would end in open warfare. The possibility of something like that ever happening outside of some insane post-apocalyptic scenario is pretty much zero. I think that there's plenty of legal recourse if ever a mass independence movement arose. It's the notion of an actual Texas sovereignty movement with proper financial and political backing that's totally far-fetched, at least under present political and economic circumstances.

I am saying even with all of the financial and political prerequisites that the consequences of voting to leave the Union would be brutal. I am not talking about an armed Texas revolution militia fantasy and I am also not talking about a Nationalist movement or some Boog Boy silliness.

@Agni @Atlas_Khan @MisterRogersSnapped I think it's likely that as the Federal US decays it'll devolve its powers to the states in much the same way the later Roman Emperors parcelled off difficult to manage regions to local Warlords.
Thankfully the states already have well formed local governance.
Pointless, self-indulgent exercise that calls for a degree of hubris I'm simply incapable of attaining.
