@parker brave is like impossible to compile and the build process is lookin for stuff outside its tree

is there a self-contained release tarball somewhere and i can download it and type 'make'

@p @parker I was able to compile Brave, but it took 36 hours and my laptop was starting to smell like melting plastic by the end of it. I think it permanently altered my computer.

@alex @parker Yeah, I'm waiting for something I have *guessed*, it started looking for ../chrome (BUILD SYSTEMS SHOULD STAY IN THEIR TREE) and I suspect that this means it wants Chromium to be there so I'm now waiting for `git clone` to fetch 22GB of source history that I don't actually want because I want to download a tarball and type 'make' or equivalent and not devote 22GB to a browser that I hate because a browser that I would like to try expects a git repo (bad coupling).

Did you do this whole dance or did you find a tarball somewhere?

Basically yes. TBF you also have to be insane to accept the current state of a lot of code bases.
