EU will unveil its European Chips Act in H1 2022 as part of its strategy to boost semiconductor production to 20% of global production by 2030
@skells Ursula von der Leyen and Maroš Šefčovič's letter of intent to European Parliament President David Maria Sassoli and Prime Minister Janez Janša of 15 September 2021 mentioned an upcoming European chips act, aimed at building a state-of-the-art European semi-conductors ecosystem.

According to the European Commission work programme for 2022, released on 19 October 2021, a proposal on a European chips act will be published in Q2 2022.

@11112011 of course it is

can you get a viable semiconductor industry rolling before the money hose stops working?

for this, even a very smart operator needs a little luck

@11112011 I wouldn't bet the farm on it but seems likely they'll manage it.

decentralising this hi tech manufacturing will chill everyone out a bit

@skells no one is betting prolly it getting done just like all other shit in civilezed blocks of nations

@11112011 I think Dresden and Munich are already pretty strong there, also the Munich universities are really strong in quantum/photonics. If anyone outside the US has a shot at continuing to push Moore's Law it's the Germans
