It’s huge because this is really a much loved platform in Russia and also the source of income for lots of small businesses across the country. And for young Moscow elites it’s.. everything

@11112011 they're better off without it. it's become more of a sales marketing app than an arts app in the last 4-5 years.

@Dave @11112011 very frustrating, I still use it to look at other people's art and cute animals. But if I wanted to just share my art you have to start marketing and spamming a thousand hashtag to just be in a little art community

honestly in the past I would agree with you that banning things outright, especially media platforms (like China does), is bad but I heard they already blocked pornhub and I guess after that I thought about it...and there is virtually nothing useful on Instagram or Pornhub. my life has been better since quitting both and there is zero upside specially with the dilution of quality posts in Instagram.

when cellphone cameras were just getting good there was a massive influx of good, unique content. now everyone wants to sell you something and rope you into their marketing programs. any sense of real community is online for me is telegram or discord i dont really think instagram is built for anything but marketing and hooking up at this point.

dating apps rely on instagram so users can vet someone from a dating app without ever having to talk to them. then u message each other on instagram because dating apps are 'sketchy'

there's nothing im gonna see on Insta and be like wow im super glad i sat through 400 shitty pics to see something kind of cool (and that's with me following 90% professional/brand accounts - amateur pics are a waste of my time). talking to people is basically impossible there since ppl can remove your comment, you can only say something nice. i do not think it's good for the avg person who just wants to share content, everyone has a motive ($, attention, sex) i get male pejeets following me and i know they are masterbating its just a bad situation
