Thomas spoke about the leak. He pointed out the current generation has no respect left for government institutions, and hinted that society can't bare the lack of rule of law.

Well, when a large enough group with institutional power is calling for murdering officials and people with opposing viewpoints; and the media and corps back them up that's how we got in the current civil war in the first place. Rule by mob has been in effect for some time now, and enough people think that's normal. People are holding out hope it can be resolved at the ballot box this year, yet another national electioneering scandal could break the dam to hot conflict.

Either way it's too late to fix the policy mistakes that ended the petrol-dollar down to a switch to overtly authoritarianism with a background of fuel and food shortages. It seems hot conflict is baked in given how this plays out in the past. The neolibs in both parties are literally suing to block opposing candidates off the ballot already. The leftists are cheering them on...

They lost support of the people, and are more than willing to burn it all down on the way out the door. Just look at the death threats on twitter as they literally say "burn it all down" quite often. Hell even bluechecked games journalists are down for it as we saw that go viral. The mob mentality doesn't stop even when the ring leaders bail out. They baked us a poison cake, and everyone feels they have to eat it. 🍰
Makes you wonder, thinking back the head counting phase. It seems quaint now. We've got to the point we literally have a Ministry of Truth right before the new COVID push for election reasons. Expect even more suppression of political violence this year. Consider all the stories from earlier this year that have already been scrubbed.

@thendrix as an outside observer, it seems likely that the real violence will be in large cities, particularly coastal

the people who are frothing about this seem to be a fairly small minority and most people just want to get on with their lives. maybe the homicidal maniacs grind themselves to paste while those who've had enough wait on the sidelines to rebuild what's left

perhaps I'm an optimist but I think the US has plenty left in the tank, just need to end the Fed and cut the federal government down a peg or 5

the irony is that you guys are so heavily armed no one would be insane enough to invade and the only thing a standing army is needed for is imperial projection.

@skells If we don't move away from political law enforcement and restoration of the balance of powers soon the resource crisis will be hard to weather. We watched countless nations split over less when triggered the same way. However bad actors don't have an incentive to step out of the way as they will lose power. Slow motion train wreck continues.

That said some of the lawfare has failed, but it shouldn't be allowed or there will be no connection to the people and the state left. This is the reason our standing armed services are down to such historic levels. Why serve a nation that's against you and your values? This fuels the rift and power they hold is worth less each day, and it's why you see more power grabs to attempt to just hold ground. We have all seen how that plays out if allowed to continue. Hell the founding of this nation itself happened over less.

@thendrix my impression is that Americans worth their salt are more braced for the mad Max interim than even the most competent European
