"Yes, we mourn our Queen, someone who has been in our lives, seemingly forever, always providing a calm, steady presence in a rapidly changing world. As you write, she embodied those virtues of duty, steadfastness, and unselfishness, virtues that were common amongst many people during the war years particularly. Virtues, alas, that are now increasingly rare. My late Father, a disabled 2nd WW veteran, was one such, and he recognised those qualities in Elizabeth II, and revered her until his death. Now she too is gone, and, somehow a huge part of what is best in Britain, has gone with her. Just as that very special generation, the one that faced down Hitler, is now almost all lost to history. I think many in Britain fear that this brave new world has not proved worthy of their sacrifice. Thus, we are today grieving not only for the death of our great Queen, but also for the loss of the nation we love, but now see changed beyond recognition, and not in a good way. RIP to our beloved Queen, we shall not see your like again."
Very fitting.
