if we are to meekly accept the emissions of our government apparatus and associated media outlets, what are the principles we are fighting for other than the interest of our own oligarchy/ruling classes?

we underestimate the intelligence and capacities of the Russians and their allies at our own peril, and those who are most gung ho and aggressive are also the one's who display the most contempt for Eurasian statecraft and the willingness to apply their methods

@11112011 doubt the sanity/sincerity of anyone who says that

@thatguyoverthere @dave @helene @sullybiker so I'm told but this thread demands an agonizing reappraisal of the whole situation

@Evenkeeld once you’ve committed to a team you’re weak to their bullshit. Doesn’t matter which team.

that train of thought was after listening to the Hardcore history addendum with Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook

all three roughly (Tom Holland has a few hintergedank) toe the party line r.e. Ukraine and Putin but one can't make the case that they are uniformed or completely captured

society will always be there and by definition it's full of people you disagree with

deal with it, one way or another

it's remarkable how siloed people have become in the information they credit, and what is most fascinating is the way that all of them are right in their own way

fedi is important from this perspective, yet it's important to find more "mainstream" sources that you can respect and credit

otherwise it's slow descent into full schizo
