At this point in time, I'm not interested in tearing down the Queen or the royal institution. I understand criticism, that things were far from perfect. I have a complicated relationship with it all.
What I do know is that while her health has been going downhill for a while, it was a shock to hear the news yesterday still. In a time of great uncertainty, in the public life as a country and people, and in my own personal life trying to navigate all that... there is a great loss. A reminder of this.
I make posts to help me make sense of her passing, and for what it means to my country and people. Times have changed that it is hard to find a sense of community in person and so I turn to online. That is my focus. I hope you will be able to understand this even if you don't agree with it.
As I become conservative-minded, my sense of mourning increases for something lost to me. Something that I haven't experienced. I think that Elizabeth II represents that to some degree, she was a constant symbol because she lived long as our monarch, she kept the monarchy frozen in time... with her sense of duty and continuing the traditions of her father and grandfather. It is precious few people that understand responsibility, that we have towards ourselves, our families, our communities and in the public sphere. We are losing the older generation who would have known what I do not. While I do not have to agree with everything that happened during her reign, I can still reflect on this and remember.
Perhaps even light a candle for this profound loss in my heart. I hope to be able to learn from this experience and to connect with other like-minded people. To reflect upon what more can be done.
