ADHD this, ADHD that, when are they gonna come out with AD1080p??

Honestly, I'd be happier if you got off Xitter than I am by seeing your phone-capped Xitter stories.

On a related note, we are very much in danger of going back to a world where parts of the web only work in certain browsers. Google spent a lot of time and money making Chrome the gold standard. But the result is people build their website to Chrome rather than to general standards that will work everywhere. I went to back to using Firefox as my default a while back. It's mostly okay, but I'm back to a world where sometimes the website I want to use just doesn't work.

The solar story is not substantially about the US, which is hard for some to grasp.

It's also not a story where there's much point getting fond of the manufacturer characters.

Regarding current discourse: The only maths you *need* to know to be a programmer is a little topological group representation theory. The rest is overemphasized and not important except to specialists.

Was there ever a job market for people to write serious applications in Emacs Lisp?

mild cognitohazard, do not read this if your name is stephen, what

i know "stephen" is a common spelling of a name. i think "steven" is slightly more common, but that's beside the point. unfortunately, every time i see "stephen", i can't help reading it as step-hen.

like, imagine if chickens did marriage & family like humans currently do ... and a hen married into a family that already had chicks from a previous marriage, presumably. then that hen would be a stephen to those chicks.

Kitsune Tails is OUT NOW!! Run, jump, and dash across a land inspired by Japanese mythology and untangle the love triangle between three young women on a journey of self discovery. Explore the complicated relationships between kitsune and humans through classic platforming action.

get it now on steam store.steampowered.com/app/132 or itch eniko.itch.io/kitsunetails

we're a small underfunded team with a majority queer developers, and while we're punching way above our weight class we need the support of our community if this game is going to be a success. please boost this post, and if you can afford it buy it on steam and leave a positive review on the first day (the text doesn't matter, only the thumbs up, so "i like gay fops" is totally valid as a review)

i also want to prove fedi is powerful enough to make an indie game succeed, so even if you're not personally that into the game, please boost this post? 🙏

@ploum

@spoltier Terraform Industries is a bunch of dreamers with utterly unrealistic numbers.

Capex-light power-to-gas technology would indeed be a breakthrough; judging by their considerable output on X, they ain't going to be the ones to make that breakthrough.

Simon boosted

@solar_chase very interesting conversation! You mentioned electrolyzers, which made me curious on your take regarding terraform industries. They're trying to build cheap-but-less-efficient electrolyzers to take advantage of low solar prices.

And here's the podcast. It was so much fun to argue with Michael again. He's wrong about 1 cent/ kilowatt-hour solar, by the way.

Working on the next XLConnect release. The master branch build can be installed the usual way:

install_github("miraisolutions/xlconnect")

or using r-universe:

install.packages("XLConnect", repos = c("miraisolutions.r-universe.dev", "cloud.r-project.org"))

I'm fascinated by how difficult LLM-based AI systems are proving to use

Makes me realize that the Star Trek ship computers are actually a pretty good representation of this: you need to have a very high level of experience to know to say things like "Computer: reroute auxiliary power to the forward shield emitters"

Much like getting ChatGPT et al to reliably-enough perform useful tasks for you!

@kellogh this stood out as I'm reading "the Courage to be Disliked" by Ichiro Kishimi, and it says something quite similar on self-acceptance.
