@Graycot Hi! Thanks and nice to meet you!
some of my all times favorite animes are: fullmetal alchemist, planetes, ace of diamond and steins;gate. As for books, I'm a huge fan of Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Time series, and I'm exploring a lot of chinese scifi at the moment.
What about you?
@overcode Hi! nice to meet you too! FMA will always hold a dear place in my heart, it's the one series that made me start watching anime consistently. I just happened to catch and episode on tv of the oldest series and I had to rush to buy the manga too.
I definitely recommend Planetes if you like hard scifi, the animation studio even consulted JAXA to make it look more realistic. I enjoyed both anime an manga, but they are quite different, sharing only the major characters and some plot points. The first starts off as a slice of life, but it then develops into a story centered around a terrorist plot. The manga insted retains its 'slice of life' feel until the end. It heavily focuses on personal issues, such as loneliness and regret. Personally I watched the anime first, but the manga is pretty short (only 4 volumes) if you want to check if you like the series.
@stormtoast yes! The older series, I have watched both but the new one doesn't compare to the older imo, though I don't know how to explain why ahahha (maybe because the first time of something leaves a special kind of impression?)... I just watched a trailer of planetes, animation looks great, so I am gonna start with the anime. I like what you mentioned about the focus on emotion and human nature, I am into that too, so here we go, more cool stuff to explore. Thanks for the recommendations!
@stormtoast @Graycot Nice to meet you! Full metal alchemist is one my favorite animes too (I would say, top 10 in my list). Will never forget the tragedy behind trying to bring back to life the person they love the most, and the unraveling of that event. Planetes is new for me, seems cool so I will give it a try. Do you recommend the manga or the animated version first? Cheers
